UA SafeState Hosting TWO Great Conference in 2014

27th Alabama Governor’s Safety and Health Conference

Many of you have previously attended the Alabama Governor’s Safety and Health Conference, and this year the conference will be held August 25–27 at the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach.   We look forward to seeing you again, and if this will be your first attendance, we can’t wait to see you for the first time.  As always, General and Technical sessions will cover key issues affecting the work environment with topics covering a wide range of occupational safety and health subjects, and updates on regulatory issues.  To find out more and to register, click algovshc.ccs.ua.edu .
 
1st Annual Alabama Environmental Conference –Environmental Management in the Southeast

For those of you who also have environmental compliance responsibility or for the co-workers in your company who have that responsibility, UA SafeState is hosting our first Alabama Environmental Conference October 20-21, also at the Perdido Resort in Orange Beach.  We are planning a unique program built around proactive and sustainable solutions for environmental compliance and conservation challenges.  General and Technical session speakers will address key issues in environmental management and compliance, with real-world examples of solutions that can help you.  For more information and registration, please click alabamaenvironmentalconference .

The 27th Annual Alabama Governor's Safety and Health Conference is open for registration.  The conference will be held August 25-27, 2014 at the beautiful Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, AL.  This year's theme, Safety and Health: Driving Quality and Productivity, reflects the heart and soul of every organization...the people.  Every day we count on people to plan, perform, create and innovate. Our people drive our organizations to greatness and prosperity. Alabama Governor's Safety and Health Pre-Conference Information and Registration

Join us Thursday and Friday before the conference for our pre-conferences. This year we are offering an OSHA Training Institute, Education Center course; 7505 Introduction to Accident Investigation on Thursday, August 21, and Injury and Illness Prevention Program – Safety Systems on Friday, August 22. Attendance at the Alabama Governor’s Safety and Health Conference is not required in order to participate in any of these programs. A block of rooms is reserved at the Perdido Beach Resort for the participants of the pre-conferences at a rate of $112 plus 11% tax. (See additional hotel information located in this brochure.) All courses are on a first-paid first served basis. The pre-conference fee is non-refundable. Each program is limited to 30 participants, so register early!

Environmental Management Consultation Update

UA SafeState’s Environmental Management Programs have had an exciting and busy first quarter of 2014.  Between conference research, business assistance, and training programs we have logged almost 6,000 miles.  You may have passed us on the road or in the air. OSHA Emphasis Program Roundup

Congratulations to McWane, Inc.

Congratulations to the management team at McWane, Inc. for their first place victory in the national Ergo Cup competition at the 2014 Applied Ergonomics Conference.   More than 40 companies from across the country submitted entries and, this year, McWane’s  Manchester Tank- Elkhart facility won the team competition.  And check this out:  Of the five years that a McWane facility was represented at the national competition, this is the third time they’ve brought home the trophy.   Special recognition goes out to the safety and health leadership at McWane, Inc. for creating the internal process that gives rise to outstanding accomplishments like this.


Training Updates

2nd Quarter Environmental Training Schedule
UA SafeState’s Environmental Training Section will be offering the following courses, required by EPA and the State of Alabama to engage in these types of work, this upcoming quarter. If you already have these credentials and need to keep them updated, required update classes in these disciplines are being offered as well. 2nd Quarter OTI-EC Class Schedule
The OTI-EC will be hosting several of its most popular classes this quarter. In addition to the “core” Standards and Trainer courses, which are held on a revolving basis, several specialty courses will also be held including machinery and machine guarding standards, lockout/tagout, permit required confined spaces, bloodborne pathogen exposure control for healthcare facilities, introduction to machinery and machine safeguarding, and introduction to safety and health management.
